What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence is the use of technology that enables computers or machines to do things that usually do not require the use of mental abilities like humans, for example recognizing objects, people, languages, sounds, making decisions, predicting, translating, learning, ... and so on.

When you hear Artificial Intelligence you may think that this only deals with robots or extremely advanced technologies, which you have never and will never use in your life. Although Artificial Intelligence is also used in robots and other large advanced technologies, Artificial Intelligence is also used in many common technologies used by many people in everyday life including you.

Examples of the use of Artificial Intelligence

You may wonder... Have you ever used things that use Artificial Intelligence?

The answer is yes...

If you have ever used Google, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Yahoo, Instagram, YouTube, Uber, Snapchat or your smartphone camera in recent days, there is a more than 99 percent chance that you have used or benefited from Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence can be used in many ways. A few examples of things that use Artificial Intelligence in common technologies in everyday life can help explain what Artificial Intelligence is and how it can be used.

Gmail

Your e-mails that you receive through Gmail are usually divided into different groups, for example primary (basic), spam (ignored or fraudulent), social (social networks), promotions (advertisements), and so on. In this case, instead of you doing the job of identifying and sorting emails into groups, Artificial Intelligence used in the Gmail system helps you do the job automatically.

Another example is when you write an English email, you can see that Gmail suggests words or sentences to write correctly according to the relevant context. This is also the result of the use of Artificial Intelligence.

Youtube

For example when you watch a music video on YouTube you are often suggested other videos to watch. Often the videos are songs or videos that are very compatible with the song you are watching at the time. What happens is that the YouTube system uses Artificial Intelligence to identify other videos that are similar to the video in question.

Smartphone cameras

On many of today's smartphone cameras, when I take a selfie on the screen, a box appears around your face, and every time you move your face, the box also moves to follow it and this helps you take a better selfie. Here Artificial Intelligence is used to recognize the presence of a human face in the image.

Google search

If you decide to search on Google for example "What is AI". Google uses Artificial Intelligence to recognize that you are asking a question and try to identify a direct answer about what Artificial Intelligence is.

These are just a few of the many examples of the use of Artificial Intelligence at the moment.

_Artificial Intelligence_ can be used in communication, industrial production, health services, security, analysis, forecasting, agriculture, business, transportation, statistics and many other things.

Due to globalization and the rapid growth of technology, Artificial Intelligence is not a technology that can be developed and used only in developed countries, but even developing countries have many things that can be done and benefited through this technology.

It should be noted that

AI isn't just about robots.

AI is not a technology so complex or so expensive that only nations and large companies can afford it.

There are many things in various sectors that can be simplified with the use of AI.

As with other technologies, AI has great benefits and also has its challenges...
